Loader and Local Driver - Indianapolis, IN

 

SUMMARY:

The Loader is primarily responsible for loading and unloading company’s trucks, third party trucks, and the activities within the fence of the parking lot. These initiatives may include backing up trucks to dock stations, loading customer orders on to the trucks, supports the Transportation Supervisor and all teammates in the company, supports with coordination to ensure that all customer orders get delivered in a timely manner. The Loader will report to the Transportation Supervisor. In addition, this person may occasionally be responsible to serve the company’s customer needs by transporting the company’s products. While completing these tasks, this individual will operate a company vehicle, help to unload product at customer sites, and operate the company trucks in a safe and regulatory manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Loads and unloads shipments as required; constant lifting of boxes weighing up to 60 pounds each
  • Loads trucks according to truck mapping and special instructions
  • Loads product in a manner to avoid damages and maintain load stability to ensure driver safety
  • Wraps pallets by machine or hand to insure stability
  • Unloads and cleans out trucks as necessary
  • Operates stock trucks and mechanical jacks throughout the facility constantly in a safe manner
  • Prepares products for shipment under general supervision by weighing, handling and transporting as necessary
  • Hand loads product onto trucks as required.  Pushing and pulling of pallets with pallet jack
  • Marks, addresses, loads, and packs product for proper delivery and condition
  • Picks up, loads and unloads damaged goods and customer returns, and completes necessary paperwork
  • Unloads product from trailer, by hand or using hand cart, and places in designated customer storage areas
  • Complies with all safety regulations and standards
  • May include transporting product down ramps, stairs, or docks, in all weather conditions
  • Maintains and safely operates all assigned equipment, including but not limited to hand cart, pallets, load bars, and personal protective equipment
  • Maintains sanitary conditions in tractor and trailer, assists with maintaining sanitary conditions in the warehouse and yard and proper handling of product.
  • Assists transportation supervisor
  • Works all shifts and weekends when required
  • Must past DOT physical
  • Possess leadership and initiative to drive projects effetely and in a timely manner
  • Drives trucks that contains a box up to 30 feet
  • Delivers product from plants and warehouses to distribution centers and grocery stores using refrigerated trucks while operating a commercial vehicle
  • Completes Department of Transportation (DOT) logs (electronic or manual as required), company vehicle maintenance reports and reconciles with appropriate company representatives as needed
  • Obtains receipts/bills of landing and signatures for delivered goods to be turned in to the company on time
  • Maneuvers truck into loading/unloading position, and checking that the vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned
  • Delivers product within assigned route schedule and time windows. Immediately informs the management team of any deviations
  • Maintains and safely operates all assigned equipment, including but not limited to hand cart, pallets, load bards, and personal protective equipment
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities per federal and state regulations following Shenandoah Growers’ policies and procedures
  • Drives standard transmissions
  • Other duties may be assigned

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  No specific educational requirements; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Valid driver’s license, 1yr experience in loading & unloading trucks and 1yr of forklift & pallet jack experience. 1 year of commercial truck driving experience required.

Language Fluency: No specific language requirements; bi-lingual English/Spanish fluency preferred.

Technology: No specific technology requirements; basic computer and keyboarding skills preferred.

Licensure: No specific licensure required. CDL Class B license preferred.

Credentials: No specific professional credentials required.
